Solar Eclipse Student Opt-Out

On April 8, 2024, a solar eclipse will be visible on a path across the United States. While Balmorhea will not be in the direct path of the eclipse, we will still be able to see a partial eclipse.

Balmorhea ISD has acquired several solar eclipse glasses that will allow our students to see the eclipse safely and we will be affording our students the chance to partake in this unique learning experience.

Your child’s safety is our top concern. Staring directly at the sun is unsafe. The only way to safely look at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed sun is through these glasses that are designed for such purposes. Although there is no way to fully guarantee student safety during such a rare event, we will take precautionary measures to make students aware of the risks in looking directly at the sun. At no time should students remove their eclipse glasses and look directly into the sun as it could cause permanent eye damage or other unknown effects. There is no way for the school to guarantee that your child will not remove their eclipse glasses, so please speak with your child about the importance of keeping their eclipse glasses on at all times during this event.
